My initial reaction is wtf is the point of dropping a trailer over a year ahead of time, but who knows and it doesn't matter. It looks like GTA. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Yeah, aside from that though, a trailer with a date over a year out feels unnecessary to me on some levels. That's mostly what I meant. But perhaps they have some kind of ad machine to spin up. I guess I can see how it makes sense if I put my business boy hat on.

Excellent use of Tom Petty. Nary a single song I've heard from him I don't like, which I believe, for my tastes, is unprecedented. Last Dance With Mary Jane, You Got Lucky, The Waiting, Refugee, Breakdown, American Girl, Free Fallin', etc.

Casually looking forward to it. Rockstar hasn't missed with GTA in long, long time (the tri-port hackjob notwithstanding), and both GTAIV and V are two of the most fulfilling experiences I've had with a video game.

Get ready for woke jokes and "woke" "jokes" abound.

Then again, hopefully the developmental timeframe meant that aspect of modern American life has been avoided... for now. Rockstar's satire can be very hit or miss. Ignoring my own personal politics, I both love and loathe their bluntness.

One promising thing I picked up on: the 2 main characters actually seem likable, even with just the snippets of dialogue. It'll be nice to play characters who seem to care about each other. As much as I enjoyed GTAV, I HATED 2 of the 3 main characters

I'm gonna take a wild stab in the dark and say you didn't like Michael or Trevor?

Franklin was probably the most relatable one, so I see that. I don't remember too many things about Michael, outside being fairly similar to other GTA archetypes. Trevor, though, is a goddamn cartoon character. Almost unrealistically chaotic. But, by that same token, that's part of why I liked him.

I actually met Steven Ogg (the actor for Trevor) at a local Comic-Con in 2016 and it made a very positive impression upon my life, so I could be slightly biased. Dude was so bouncy, yet friendly and even got someone to find me and bring back something I had left at his boutique. Michael and Franklin were sort of just dudes, heh.

Yeah, and even Franklin I just kinda liked. I think it may have partially been a story thing, too. You look back at Tommy, CJ, and Niko from Vice, SA, and IV, and they had clear motivations and at least shades of a dimension. Those three, things just happened to them for a while and then the game ended. Franklin was at least likable, but Trevor was just a raging psychopath and Michael's whole personality was just being mad at people for being mad at him, even though he's the one who screwed them over in the first place.

I think Trevor would have been better placed as the more "cartoonish" character in a PS2 era game, but put him in the far more photorealistic era of IV and V and he's just...horrifying.

Like I said, we didn't get much of the main characters in this trailer, but it's already clear they care about more than just themselves or money. That one little snippet in the motel room(?) went a long way in selling those two for me

It's sad that Rockstar is a shell of what they started as. They went from being one of the most respected devs--granted GTA is still pretty good--to a company more interested in profits (I get it, no dev can survive without profit) instead of the dev that went out of their way to push the medium forward with new ideas.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is very impressive, but imo it's a boring slog of a game that completely forgot its roots. It's much more a film than a game.
I liked what I saw in this video, but I'm not going to allow myself to get hyped, because the people in charge have made clear that they feel like this game will be worth more, and I have every reason to believe they will nickel and dime us to death.
We should've gotten that Bully sequel (I'm sure you've read, but it was in development. Now we can just assume what we never got), along with others... similar to what they used to produce.

Hopefully they prove me wrong, but I'll continue to be more interested in indies, and devs that actually care about the finished product, instead of AAA games that if one fails, the entirety of the dev studio might be in jeopardy for the ignorance of top management.

Rocksteady was lauded as a top studio (Arkham Knight was a huge disappointment though, lol. That batmobile ruined a great game), but WB forced them into doing a garbage full priced live service game (SuicideSquad). I'll bet a ton that it will fail, and people will get laid off because of the ignorance of WB management. It's shit, and completely unsustainable. Most of all, it's really sad.

Heavy disagree nearly completely on red dead 2 even if like GTA 4 qnd V I hate its gunplay. Red Dead 2 has a outatanding feeling and joy of exploration.

Red Dead 2 is better to me then every past game they made apart from maybe max payne 3 gameplay wise. Bully 2 or a new Manhunt would be great to see tho as maybe a smaller project between their bigger biger games.
