Continuing my quest into watching shows that were Frankenstein'd into Robotech that are not Macross, while managing not to watch either Macross or Robotech, by checking out the incredibly-named Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross!
It's the 21st century guys, we already live in the future, when do we start dressing like this
Sometimes you just gotta watch a solidly Okay show whose character designs really appeal to you!
Certainly the why's and how's get pretty shaky towards the end, and I think that is partly due to just "fuck it, this is whaty we want to happen, don't worry too hard about it", and only partly due to the show getting cut short--which is pretty obvious as in the last few episodes they start running out of time and shoving information into recaps and previews that they don't have time to put into full scenes. Still, it's nice to see a show like this that's overall going for fun and bouncy space adventure also be primarily about how both sides of the conflict were too hasty to jump to aggression and need to make peace rather than fight--even if it also ends up doing a bit of "even though our cultures are different, I know we can still be in love, just as long as you realise your culture's way of doing things is wrong and mine is right". Like, it's going for the "even Vulcans have feelings" thing, but...well, whatever. Fun laser times in multicoloured jumpsuits with an entertainingly chaotic heroine, ultimately!
