Book of the New Sun is extremely cool and I want to make a game where you play a character listening to, chronicling and doubting a dethroned tyrant's flimsy account of their journey to the throne.
BUT, I need to finish reading the other three books in the series to both wholly mine out this source of inspiration. Also to make sure I'm not accidentally being derivative of things the book will cover but I just haven't gotten to.
This happens to me more often than you'd think, but this is also why people in games should read books IMO.
