I just need Jack to know that their anime comparison basis being Sailor Moon brings so much personal joy to me through this podcast, along with every other thing happening throughout the episode
A thing about the anime's episode titles, at least the early ones, is that they're all mostly-untranslatable wordplay, sort of.
It's all a play on the very first intro, the "these people are called Hunters" bit.
珍獣・怪獣 (chinjuu . kaijuu) rare beasts . strange beasts
財宝・秘宝 (zaihou . hihou) expensive gems . secret gems
魔境・秘境 (makyou . hikyou) evil lands . secret lands
These are all pairs with a similar ending and the episode titles work the same way.
タビダチ×ト×ナカマタチ(tabidachi x to x nakmatachi) departure x and x friends
シケン×ノ×シケン (shiken x no x shiken) test x of x tests
ライバル×ガ×サバイバル (raibaru x ga x sabaibaru) rivals x for x survival
The best of these is
ヒソカ×ハ×ヒソカ (hisoka x ha x hisoka) hisoka x is x sneaky
because Hisoka's name is just the Japanese word for sneaky.
I am absolutely loving this show. My only complaint is there's no backlog for me to binge on. To that end, can anyone recommend any podcasts doing a similar thing with other anime?
"JeffJeff's Bizarre Adventure" on Giant Bomb, which has so far covered three arcs of JoJo, Once Punch Man, and is currently working through Cowboy Bebop.
