I think people looking to 'replace' twitter with this are going to struggle because it's not trying to really accomplish the same things, and you don't have to restrict yourself to the format of glib microblogging style for every kind of post you would otherwise like to make, nor do you have to think about metrics or making it easy or hard to find your important posts because you can use the tag system to create hyperspecific ones if need be, etc.

If anything this is a bit more like a Tumblr without the visible metrics incentivizing certain attention-seeking behaviors. This site doesn't need to be the one-stop-shop for all forms of posting, either. It was nice when Twitter was just a supplemental thing, for example.

I think early on a lot of folks aren't prepared to be like, interesting, on their own terms.

A lot of activity on twitter is taking a celebrity post or something very funny and passing it along to people who will see it who will then do more of the same. Starting out in the early phase of a platform like this is when ya' gotta' be the fun posting though.

Luckily I'm drowning in cool friends who have always done cool things on here so my feed is already jumpin'.

It remains to be seen if Twitter style microblogging is actually hampered by the vibe and format of this site though. After all, there's definitely the same shitposting on Tumblr. I fail to see much of a distinction. Dril could post here.

The lack of visible metrics is one of the biggest draws, IMO, and also one of the things that's currently breaking my brain the most. It'll be interesting to see how that lack coupled with the more-open posting format will influence things as all the new folks (myself included) flood in.
