While there has been (and likely never will be) any direct confirmation of the hypothesis, it is widely believed by scholars that Au Ra are, in some way, descendants of dragons. Auri are widely known for and easily recognizable by the scaling present on their body, thick plates which serve to both decorate and protect- an easy link back to those draconic ancestors.
However, divergent Auri lineages have been observed displaying these traits differently from one another, traits pulled from the wider subset of dragonkin rather than the more specific dragon. The Etsuko clan is one such family, their draconic traits presenting more akin to the Falak than the greater Dragon, a serpentine dragonkin adapted for flight.

the lorebook states that all 'dragons' start off as dragonet and adapt from there though, so I don't think it's. that much of a stretch?? idk I just think it'd be neat if different families were based off of different dragon types or, like. reptiles. it'd be neat
