The touch of death for a live service game is to make it like destiny rather than warframe in terms of FOMO

What this means is that regardless of any of Warframe's or Destiny's different features or styles of gameplay, by far what keeps Warframe alive is the fact that FOMO is basically nonexistent. All content is always accessible all the time, and if you want to fast-track to something you can but you can also just, work your way up to it at your own pace. My partner and I will take regular breaks between month-long obsessions with the game, and I think that's how live services should work, to be honest.

Meanwhile Destiny will vault shit you paid for and might not have even reached yet, depending on the speed at which you go through content

it's not even just warframe that does this. Deep Rock Galactic has seasonal progression that gives out cosmetic rewards, but those rewards don't just go away at the end of a season, they just get put into rotation with all the other cosmetic items you can get. It's genius. Perfect way to keep me playing because I can get ahold of anything I could possibly want from WELL before i actually started playing

I think I'm done with live service games and season passes.

For Destiny, if the season passes wasn't an issue then it's the amount of reliance I need on Youtube guides explaining mechanics and solving the puzzle quests from cryptic clues on what to do. Despite being heroic defender of the last of humanity, I never felt powerful. Enemies either died in single shots, or even the mookest of grunts was a tank ready to rip me in two with the more difficult missions. Unless I used the right weapons (exotics locked behind raids) or the right powers (that I have to time just right or waste them against a champion).

With Warframe? The strategies to beat difficult enemies at higher ends can be grasped intuitively. Can't deal enough damage? Use Radiation procs to turn the enemies against each other, or use Nyx to surround yourself with a freshly mind controlled posse (wheeze). For a game that let you play as a robot ninja piloted by a psychic teenager, it certainly knew how to make you feel powerful and if in doubt. Just slap on Quick-Thinking and boost your energy cap to tank everything. I also heard they're putting the nightwave armour sets in rotation on the store, I might yet get that walf of saturn-six armour yet.

Special mention besides DRG. Super Animal Royale, all the past season passes can be bought and grinded out for their content. None of it is important time-gated story content, its just funny hats and gun skins, and it keeps the studio's lights on. It is nowhere near as predatory as Destiny 2 felt to me. I couldn't even relax with another game, always in the back of my mind I heard that voice "What about destiny, you only have XX days left?" I am so glad I am free at last.
