🏳️🌈 Queer Games Bundle 2023 is live now! 🏳️🌈
Over 450 games, tabletop games, books, zines, albums, and art, from nearly 300 queer creators -- all for just $60, the price of one AAA game.
I just said this on twitter and I'll say it again here: PLOT HOLE is a part of the bundle and it may very well fund the entirety of our next big update? And the one after that?
I’m a sex worker. My capacity to learn the intricacies of Godot, let alone programming writ large and critical design paradigms is… limited. I’m busy figuring out how to light a tiny apartment and afford new lingerie while negotiating the fallout from the next SESTA/FOSTA. (EARNIT? KOSA??) My margins are paper thin.
Simultaneously, marketing PLOT HOLE is an exercise in oblivion. It’s extremely hard to persuade people to give your tiny porn game a chance. Even one priced as low as $5.99, the cost of a breakfast sandwich. People say they want a filthy queer game that celebrates fatness, but in my experience, when one arrives, they suddenly hedge, equivocate, perform elite gymnastics to justify how they will buy the game eventually, just not now. Never now. They’ll then turn around and give $60 to a AAA game they won’t finish owned by maniacs who actively campaign to eradicate them. I’ve seen this happen over and over again, there’s almost a rhythm to it, a meter, and I’m astonished every time.
So when I was invited to submit PLOT HOLE to QGB I was genuinely floored.
This... This could save us.
Very stoked for @boarlord, and also wanted to specifically shout out @queergamesbundle for including a selection of explicitly pornographic works! It always strikes a rather sour note when otherwise-admirable Itch bundles forbid submissions from porn games. Outside the obvious benefits of smaller developers getting a nice little cash infusion, moves like this help break down the idea that porn titles are "lesser" pieces of art or are somehow poisonous to big bundles. I also think that seasoning big bundles like this with a sprinkling of theme-relevant porn games is a good way of getting past the mental block a lot of people have against paying for porn (which, believe you me, is fucking epidemic). Great stuff!
