Idk if this makes me a toxic elitist commie, but every time I see the word "enshittification" I tend to ask myself "who benefits from there being a separate word for the profit motive and it's consequences specifically wreaking havoc on apps and websites"
and imo the answer is probably so that tech people have a way to talk about the decline of websites and apps bc of more and more hostile policies to users in the chase of profit in a way that is politically neutral and doesn't frame the profit motive as the culprit or bad in any way
