I have thunderbird, that's a thing
now I don't know where to start, things to put in the feed reader
any recommendations?

I'm Talen! I make videos and articles and games and graphic designs and guides and messes and encouragement. Chances are you can find anything I do on my blog. I like it when you comment on my things, so please do!

any webcomics you read for sure (we're big fans of Gunnerkrigg Court, Girl Genius, Kill Six Billion Demons, Questionable Content, and El Goonish Shive among others)
many Mastodon servers have an rss feed for each user, as does Cohost we think; this can be useful for people whose stuff you don't want to miss
on the technical news front we like LWN and Ars Technica, and we also have the raw feed for arxiv.org preprints in the computer science category. the IAPP (the best-known professional association for privacy stuff) also has a feed although we only read a small amount of it.
Cory Doctorow's tech policy feed is always a delight to read; we also read infosec blogs by Bruce Schneier and Brian Krebs
we follow a lot more stuff than that but that's the stuff we recommend :)
oh, right! and our good friend Tariq just started a Substack; every Substack also has an rss feed. we read it with the feed because we don't wish to give Substack, the corporation, our email address.
edit to add: you have no way of finding it if we don't link it https://codeandconsequence.substack.com/feed
I really like that Buttondown e-mail newsletters also syndicate via RSS. For example, Charlie Jane Anders' newsletter at https://buttondown.email/charliejane/.
If you listen to any podcasts, they will usually have an rss link squirreled away somewhere, and the links in that rss feed usually go straight to the audio, so a lot of readers can embed it directly.
