The fighting Fantasy book that clocks me hardest in my memory, even if it's not the one that I know I played the most, was Robot Commando. And I mean, c'mon, why wouldn't it. It's got a dinosaur and a robot mech suit fighting on the cover.
I think it's not as good a game as Forest of Doom or Scorpion Swamp, which had a lot more of a coherent sense of movement and space. I love Creature of Havoc so much though I've never successfully beaten it.
But the one I bought, kept and played through until I beat it was Tower Of Destruction. That one stands out to me because it had a plot structure where you first encounter harm, then you get a plan and start to act on the plan, then your plan is interrupted and you have to abruptly have a boss battle and fight the tower down, because they know you have the sword that'll stop them. It's a good one.
And I guess, because it introduced class abilities to me, Rise of Zagor was probably super important. This is mostly good because it's thorough and every one of the four characters gets some unique stuff in it.
There's another one, where you were a member of an order of monk-mages, where spells would draw doom upon you, so you had to basically decide how many spells you could handle in your playthrough.
... and of course this is making me think about Lone Wolf and the Sorcery set, which are also much more impressive works in the same space.
Fuck I should play more of these books for the channel.
