spent a chunk of today with Caillois and Huizinga and it's so hard to handle this work that's so racist it's radioactive with it in an academic way, because saying 'hey, this work is racist as shit, and I think it's important to recognise that' isn't allowed, you either have to write a mini-thesis on the racism and then cite why you think it's racist, Or you have to find quotes that you can refer to as 'the limitations of the author's perspectives.'
So anyway, I wound up picking the time that Caillois said that the Chinese culture was fundamentally not innovative
