Rewatching the hbomberguy video about plagiarism and realized something I haven't seen people talk about about it.

Somerton (and all the other people in the video) stole a lot of other people's content, so that they could make their work faster, and it'd take less effort. Maybe not the ONLY reason but it's a big reason, cause the more content you make, the more money you make. But plagiarisng seems like it's so much effort. How many hours of his life did Somerton waste trying to backtrack and work out plans and ideas to NOT have his life crash around him cause he was stealing people's work

Just spend that fucking time actually MAKING THE CONTENT. But I guess if HE had made the content he wouldn't have actually gotten big, probably.

the people who made the content he ripped off didn't 'get big on youtube.' A lot of them were just smaller youtubers and bloggers who never functionally got to monetise their work. The work and its quality has nothing to do with whether or not it succeds.

in reply to @Lizstar's post:

Maybe they could have flexed their essayist muscle and improved as researchers and writers if they were putting honest effort into it, but some of the people hbomberguy highlighted were just bad writers.

I think the internet historian is the perfect example of this, because he was demonstrably worse at stringing his own sentences together, and the more he revised his cave story to avoid being sued, the worse his prose got.

it didn't crystallize for me until i saw someone point this out in a comment somewhere:

illumi puts out three videos a week. hbomb puts out what, one video a year

(and as a side effect, there's a limited amount of hbomb. so when you run out of his stuff, youtube gives you the next best thing, which is illumi and james and whoever)
