a certain conceit of this series so far is that our main character goes through the trash to find various still useful things that have been thrown out, and one of the things that she finds are potions of various kinds, which are thrown out because potions slowly lose effectiveness over time. so while an expired healing potion might not be able to heal a large wound by itself, it could still heal it somewhat, or heal a smaller wound fully. fair enough... except for the small detail that she finds these potions contained in glass bottles. GLASS BOTTLES WHICH WOULD BE EXTREMELY VALUABLE ON THEIR OWN IN THE SERIES' GENERIC FANTASY SETTING! WHY AREN'T PEOPLE DISCARDING THE EXPIRED LIQUID AND REUSING THE BOTTLE?!? it's not even sealed ampoules like potions are sometimes depicted as, they're clearly shown as being clear glass bottles with ground-glass stoppers which you remove to access the liquid. mind boggled.
edit: and for the record, the economy has been partly defined. she sold the dressed meat of 6 roughly squirrel sized creatures for 100 <currency> and bought 2 good sized loaves of bread for 20 <currency>.
