Talen I swear to god if you do a Ranma ½ rewatch/reread podcast and there is a way for me to be on it I will upturn heaven into hell itself to make it come true
I mean that's an incentive right there.
I've been planning on doing a mass reread of the manga...
You know, it's been a million1 years since I watched the anime, but I don't know that I've ever read the manga. Maybe I should get around to that. It's almost certainly one of the first things that gripped me with Scary Unrecognized Gender Feelings, but I also remember having the expectation that Anime Has Plot That Always Moves Forward, Unlike Cartoons, and being annoyed that it started out feeling that way and turned into Status Quo Preserving Hijinks. It would be interesting to see how the story feels without that expectation, and without the anime filling out episodes.
(to the main point of the article: I actually wasn't in a fandom space for Ranma 1/2, so my experience was more trying to explain it to friends in high school and being met with either curiosity or "that's weird" depending on how Cool that person was. I think... trying to trace specific memories back, that might've been the year before someone made an anime club and I had friends based on that shared interest)

I wonder how much of it is any possible changes that happened with getting official trnslations of the manga vs the fan ones that were made at times that were possibly a lot more homophobic than todays.
The thing I find funny is that there's a few lines in the fan translation that are being used to support the idea ranma is trans that are just not representative of the actual line
