As Yet Untitled Work

I'm Talen! I make videos and articles and games and graphic designs and guides and messes and encouragement. Chances are you can find anything I do on my blog. I like it when you comment on my things, so please do!

a thing about Five Iron Frenzy's music that I think I don't give enough credence in any of my articles is that when they're singing about something, it is usually incredibly clear what it is they're singing about. One Girl Army is a great song about girl power but it's a Christian Song about it, and explicitly ties it to the doctrine they held at the time. Go And Get Your Riot Gear is an ACAB song but it's an ACAB song about the police instigating riots after a football game.

It's one of the things that deserves special attention in Roper's work, the man has the dignity to give up on subtlety. Even Blue Comb 78, which is probably the most obtuse song they've done, is a song about a personal experience and sense of loss that he experienced, and the fact it presents like it's a song about a blue comb and is actually about his parents' divorce is as obscure as it gets, and it's still very much about his pain.

Crank your phasers up to "slaughter"
Turn your wine back into water
When you play this song, Al Qaeda wins
And Jesus was American

I still listen to them! I am up to date on their albums! I know more about what's going on with Five Iron Frenzy than I know about Taylor Swift! It's absolutely unhinged that this Christian Ska Band from the Ska Bubble of the 90s has sunk so deep into my mind, but also, crucially, don't embarrass me now
