I genuinely love "I could do it but it requires an enormous amount of effort and practice to get right so I just learned enough to do this one party trick (that also has some utility)" as a limitation. It's very like... relatable?

I haven't seen/read much of MHA, but " character has a SUPER OP power but is too no-thoughts-head-empty enough to use it in OP ways" is one of those things that I imagine feels very freeing to a lot of authors but really requires you base the whole character around it for it to actually work. Yeah and they don't! In MHA, she's meant to be an ace student! She makes like, a mobile phone tracker device!

And Polly is not only very 'well, this trick gets me there 99% of the time' stuff that I like but she's also a huge perfectionist so to her, hey, hey hey now, I didn't say I Can't make an iphone, get a load of THIS-

Hah, so she wouldn't accept "I can make an iphone, or this thing that looks like a car but doesn't actually work very well even if it would work long enough to impress people."

....and i can't imagine a perfectionist would be satisfied with just making the same iphone as new models come out so every couple years she'd need to spend some time and "upgrade" her knowledge.
