'why aren't they playing another game if they're barely playing D&D?' because D&D is working for them and part of how that works is the way the system outsources components to other people.

I… swear you’re from another planet than this doll or Olwen. This post is nearly unintelligible. It’s not “facilitating it” by not being involved in that play. By that standard, Doom “facilitates” watching the demo and tapping the screen like a cat whenever something interesting moves.
Yeah, as an indie TTRPG designer I agree, but that's sure not how they see it.
