@ewie asked:

have you played netrunner at all? (asking because i like seeing your custom cards, but i don't have the context necessary to process the magic cards. also i think you might just like it.)

I have played Netrunner once. It was with my PhD supervisor in oh, January 2020.

It is a super exciting game, I love a lot of what it's doing and I want to get into it now it's Nisei. The approach is intimidating to me, though. What makes this even more of a thing is I 'know'? one of the flavour devs for the new form of Netrunner, and they're a really cool person and I want to understand and appreciate their work in context.

I just don't have a good way to learn and play Netrunner with other people right now compared to Magic: The Gathering's 'convenient app on my phone' standard.

But what I do know of Netrunner is it's a painfully clever game. Structurally, the idea that one player brings the victory conditions and the other player, if they want to win has to find a way to steal it is exciting. The way every zone is treated equally valid as targets for exploration is exciting. The nature of creating and laying traps is exciting. The way players are presented as either individuals or the exact anti-individual is exciting.

It's a cool looking game!

i can do teach you over discord using jnet, which lets you play netrunner for free online. the ui isn’t great (i’ve heard it be praised as “better than mtgo”), but it’s the main way a lot of people do games.
