was talking to a friend about my improvements to clive's look, and out of nowhere they go "so does he have an accent?" now this is catastrophic. i made the clive model so i could vtube as him, but i'm obviously not gonna do a shitty british accent on streams. he would have to have one, though. it's required.
fortunately, there's a solution: timex, of all people, partnered with sinclair to sell ZX series machines in the US! so clive is canonically a timex-sinclair spectrum
new problem: timex uh, did not actually sell a spectrum here. they sold the Timex Sinclair 2068, which, let's be clear, looks amazing:
however, it's... not actually a Spectrum. they changed the ULA, changed the ROM, and tried to give it a bunch of new features. these rendered it completely uninteresting because 90% of spectrum software won't run, and since it uses NTSC timing, what does run will be 20% too fast. this is, of course, perfect.

clive sucks as a computer. this was already known; now he's an incompatible licensed clone of a computer, so, he's worse. good.

clive cannot actually run programs. this was already known; he puts in a tape, screams for 10 minutes, and then his faceplate turns into gibberish - but now we know that it's because he has the wrong firmware. good.
