Been trying out Linux Mint XFCE on a virtual machine, and the fact that you can make the UI work like CDE is really awesome, and almost makes me want to switch DEs. There’s some stuff I prefer in Cinnamon: the settings are a nicer arranged and feature graphics, while XFCE will often mainly have text in menus (even for stuff like picking the icon set). XFCE lacks system sounds; it doesn’t have desklets, and lacks a few neat applets Cinnamon has. Though, Cinnamon is way less customizable, and is primarily designed for a Windows like setup. So I’m not sure which I prefer.
On a related note— I’m sad that modern Linux keeps twisting itself to look like other OSes, instead of trying to have its own identity. Linux shouldn’t look like Windows; Linux isn’t Windows, and making Linux look like Windows won’t really help people move to Linux. It’ll make them expect things to work like Windows, which itself will cause confusion.
Anyway, another really good feature of XFCE to note is:

Mouse friend.
※DO NOT RUN “sudo rm -rf /”; not even as a joke, it will kill your Linux install.
