Anonymous User asked:

actually i thought about what you said again, specifically "Things like that are still imperfect solutions"
and realized that there isn't a perfect solution. or at least tagging isn't it either
but there ARE multiple imperfect solutions that could be better than any individual one if used together

so yeah i'm not saying something new in this ask just phrasing what i said in the last one a bit differently

Yeah, I agree that there isn’t really a perfect solution. But, I belive it’s still worthwhile to at least, ask and suggest to people to tag their posts properly. And, of course, people shouldn’t be made out to be devils if they forget to tag their posts— though they should be aware of the effects this might have on others. You know, untagged flashing lights can cause serious harm for epileptics, for instance. Posts don’t just exist in a vacuum; if your profile’s public and your posts shareable, they can easily slip outside of the “intended group”, that’s where tags can help.

Also, not to tell Yinglets how to run their community, but how do you find fellow Yinglets, if no one tags their posts? This site has no algorithm, so the tagsystem is actually an integral part of how it functions. If I make a post about, say, Linux, I don’t just tag it as “Linux” because that’s what the post is about, I also want fellow Linux fans to see it; just like how people use tags to filter things out, there are those who use them to filter things in, so to speak. If there’s no Yinglet tag, then the only way to find fellow Yinglets is to randomly stumbled upon one on your dashboard, which seems kinda inefficient to me. Though, again, not telling anyone how to run their community.

Also a point I wanted to make about userscripts, is that it’s such an imperfect solution, because they don’t work perfectly across all platforms, could possibly be broken by Cohost, browser or device updates, and because not everyone has the needed skill to install and configure them.
