I just got an idea for a horrible keyboard layout. It has no keys for voiced consonants; instead, you’ll have to hold a new Shift key called “Voice” and the respective unvoiced consonant. So, Voice key + t = d; Voice key + Shift + t = D, &c.

well okay they're based on mora, not letters, but still. voice is a modifier key.
check it out, voice is the dakuten, the ゛just left of return, shares a key with @.
although i suppose it's ameliorated by the fact that japanese input has automatic replacement/correction (and has had it for longer) to be able to type kanji
I do know about the diacritics in Kana! They’re pretty neat!! Though, I think that system works better for Japanese than English (like in my idea above), since each character represents a whole syllable, while in English every letter is just one sound, meaning you’d have one finger on the voice key at all times.
