the "custom status" option has moved.
it used to be under the "status" menu here, where it shows what status you have. you can even see the separator that used to split off "custom status".
it is now where the status is in the popup.
i love it when applications i use randomly move features and options and menu items around. there's nothing quite like the excitement of waking up every day and wondering "where is the light switch at?"
case in point, here is discord's own support site, now showing several-versions-out-of-date instructions and images for doing it
discord! we broke 4 years of muscle memory because *spontaneously shits pants and melts into a puddle of javascript*
I had a really great "I'm the edge case for this problem" UI moment the other day when I had to ban two people from my Youtube Channel discord and I couldn't figure out HOW to ban them, because I never usually have to do it.
In my mind, I should have been able to click on their username, and there would be a big, obvious, "ban this user right here, right now" button on their profile pop-up.

Now, users who know, know that this is technically true, but when you've never had to administrate on Discord before, nothing on this screen automatically jumps out as a moderator function. I clicked the meatball menu expecting it to be in there, and you only get the option to block a user, not ban them.
Okay. So. Let's jump into my server settings. Maybe I can just type the username in. There's even a "Bans" menu in the server settings! I'll click on that, and ---

It only shows existing bans. You cannot make new bans from the bans menu. You can only revoke bans from the bans menu. Yeah.
So how the hell do I do this? The clock is ticking. Off to Google I go!
Remember how earlier I said "if you know, the button is right there"?

That little crossed swords badge is a button. If you told me this was some kind of badge related to their dumb voice call activities stuff, like maybe I wanted to issue a challenge to that person, then that's what I think of that icon. Or maybe it displays stats. It is, after all, right next to the đââïžâ (add to friends) button. But clicking the swords brings up the Mod Panel.

The Mod Panel is, ultimately, pretty useful. I get a quick summary of everything this user has ever done in my channel, shortcuts to view their posts, their media, etc. Ok, fine, I'll accept my brain fart. Time to do some moderating!
Thinking in IRC terms, I kick the first guy from my channel. Wait, shit. I should ban them. So I ban the second guy and go back to circle around to ban the guy I kicked. Click to re-open the mod panel on the guy I kicked, and...
It instantly closes itself. I can't view the mod panel for users that are no longer in the server anymore. Because I kicked him, I can now no longer touch him until he rejoins, even though he's still out there, still connected to Discord.
I chat it up with my discord, because it took me a second to take care of this problem (I was asleep when the trouble started, and it festered for an hour or two). I mention how easy it was to deal with someone on IRC, because you could just type /kick, and if only discord had a /ban
Wait. Discord does have a /ban. I'm an idiot! I forgot Discord has a limited range of slash commands and did not even think to try it. Well, fine, if I can't open the Mod Panel on this kicked guy, I'll just /ban him right? Type in his nick...
Invalid Username.
Okay. Click onto his profile, type his full Discord username...
Invalid Username.
Cool. Thanks. I use the kid gloves one time and now he's untouchable, I guess?
Somebody in chat chimes in. "Just right click his name. There's a ban option right there." It's two clicks. Doesn't matter if he's in the server or not. As long as his messages still are, I can still apply the ban retroactively from here (and only from here).

Well shit. That is actually pretty easy, but the fact it was so easy to get so misdirected in the first place is kind of frustrating and probably points out some kind of UI problem, right?
