One just ended and I spent the whole thing curled up under my desk, flinching everytime the thunder went off. Why am I like this? I haven't experienced Anything that should make me scared of it.
They are powerful. Literal forces of nature. I suspect the same thing that drives you to hide from them is what pushes me to go stand outside in them and call to the sky.
I love the rain, but I cower from the thunder and lightning. Maybe its the electricity? I still have faint scars from when I stuck a key in the electrical socket when I was 5.
The noise is quite something as well. There's lots of hooks in to brain meats that push survival linked fear responses.
You know, when I think about it, that's a very reasonable response to something that powerful and potentially dangerous.
I love thunder storms, but even I ran inside when a lightning bolt hit so close to me that all the cars in the area had their alarms go off.
Maybe you could curl up under a blanket and have someone comfort you? That might make you feel better but...
