I was pointed to this a while back - SearXNG is an instanced, self hosted search front end that effectively uses every other search engine and combines the results into something that's actually workable. The link up there goes to a directory where you can find an instance that works for you.
The best part is, once you're on an instance, you can edit the settings on your end to forbid it from using certain engines, in case Google (for example) is polluting them.
It's not a perfect solution. It is still using their engines. But it circumvents a ton of the more obnoxious things about them by not trying to give you featured snippets and the like.
