Utena wanted to be a prince, but that was never a good thing to be. So she change her archetype: through her devotion, she inspire Anthy to hope for a better world.
Sometimes I'm worried if this message is too naive. If someone depend financially on their abuser, they can't leave easily. I want to say that Anthy is strong for leaving her brother, and she is, but am I saying that people who don't leave their abusers are weak? I don't want to say that.
Anthy stabbed Utena, so afraid she was of losing everything. Anthy thought she was unredeemable. But Utena carried on in her devotion. Is that good? Should we be so devoted to continue helping someone who hurt us? Then again, if we don't, we can never help them. I don't know. I don't know.
