I hate this feeling of like I have a good idea in my head how I want a location to feel, but I just can't get it out.

Like it's bad enough when you have a picture in your head that you're struggling to draw, but because this is game dev there's extra steps to this struggle - I have to make the tileset and then construct the landscape and if my brain isn't happy with the first part it can be hard to even get to the second.

I've considered sketching out the map itself (tile outlines and all) on a gridded picture file but then it'd be like... I dunno... would I go find a sprite artist to commission maybe...

EDIT: okay cohost absolute has some weird image compression going on compared to when I posted this into Discord

harglblarghs in UI design

Wanted to swap out the previous design that was reminiscent of the PS3 or PSP save interface, as I didn't think I could think of enough varied stuff for the little slabs to the left.

So I thought a character portrait would be less work, have it be randomised or contextual or something. I'll at least have those assets on hand.

Still not entirely sure about it though.

EDIT: Wow these got jpged to hell. The general idea gets across at least, which is the main point.
