last night at 8:30 got a notif on VRCX (can't recommend it enough if you play VRC) that EMN Records (a group i'd apparently joined at a previous concert) was hosting a jam session in a half-hour. this is the first time a Japanese VRC music event hasn't been at like 4 a.m. for me, so i jumped in with a quickness.
lovely venue floating in the abyss, surrounded by sea life. the jam was alright, with some players clearly at different stages of skill progression. it started with a guitar / bass / drum trio, then at some points another drummer replaced the first, a trumpeter joined, and then what might've been another guitar. pretty great that people can actually come and go dynamically.
nothing mindblowing, but glad i stopped by. found a few more Japanese music-related groups to join that might lead to future event notifs.
also, the announcement text solved a mystery for me: how live VRC musicians stay in sync. one solution, it turns out, is software called Yamaha Syncroom, which uses some kind of Tech Magic to... i don't really understand it, but it helps everyone play along with each other. aha!
btw, i noticed a few of y'all i'm friended to here were in-game last night and i considered sending invites, but wasn't sure you'd be interested in such? lmk if you wanna opt in to such an invite in the future.
digging into EMN Records (see above) led to this earworm of a trailer. guess the event it's for happened back in November. based on how much this little teaser rules, i am sorry i missed it!
also found adjacent to their YT: this full stream of a really cool electronic glitch X jazz concert EMN hosted, with the music being fucked with / augmented in real time.
people are doing incredible stuff in VRChat!
