As a mom Im such a sucker for kids variety shows with cartoon segments. Especially when they're like super artistic with cool music, cuz it seems lile the idea for pre-K kids stuff is you just gotta repeat images and words a lot for it to stick so that lends itself really well to music and creative visuals, but like that doesnt mean u gotta make it some corny ass nursery rhyme every time.
Also like classic sesame street would just have segments of, like, footage of close up objects with ambient music playing and shit. Sometimes even if its not super obvious that any specific thing is being taught there's value in just coming up with cool ways to entertain children with earnest artistic expression. Yo Gabba Gabba would invite real famous bands to perform original songs about that episodes topic, and like yeah they're silly but there's a commitment to the bit that's endearing from like known musicians who sometimes can't even have their Bands Name Spoken On The Show, so "The Killers" for example were introduced as "Brandon, Ronnie, Mark & Dave." Biz Markie taught kids to beatbox.
Funny digression: Tony Hawk appeared in a Yo Gabba Gabba segment called "Dancey Dance" which is supposed to be a special guest doing a very simple silly dance that a hypothetical 3yo viewer could conceivably try to do along with the special guest. But Tony said "Im not good at dancing, but I can skateboard" and the guy whos a magic robot says i got u fam and materializes an entire half pipe for him, and all the goofy monster people watch him do skateboard tricks and cheer and no one dances.
Plus I think variety/sketch based shows scratch a similar itch to the quick alogirthm slurry of scrolling sites like tiktok. Catch me yelling at this cloud a lot, but I miss when media was more curated. We seemingly sacrificed quality for quantity, but really we didnt need to and its just cheaper to dump a bunch of videos on a website and tell your userbase to figure it out or make an automated thing to throw shit at them with no real nuance or desire to expose people to anything new, only what they already want so number go up.
Im rambling, this whole post was never not a ramble, all im saying is I like media that is Curated Collections Of Many Small Medias.
