Quark Amaya McFluffers and I live in a little house in a city. Together we navigate the days with cuddles, reading and writing - or rather him sleeping as I write - and looking out the window at a world we both can't quite touch. He exists as angsty fluff, and I as a chronically ill, disabled nonbinary mess.
Hi everyone who wants to call themself an ally to LGBTQIA or BIPOC or Disabled or Immigrant folks (and other marginalized identities that aren't rich white cishet men) --- that is not a word for you to claim for yourself.
To clarify: if you don't have the identity in question, that does not mean you can label yourself an ally of that identity you don't have.
That is a TITLE that WE give to YOU and ONLY IF you actually do ally things and stand by us.
If we talk to you, and you yell at us about our tone and how we shouldn't be pissing off our allies? That proves to us you aren't our ally. That's hostile and turns our ability to speak up at all into something for you can ignore/dismiss/veto based on tone. Stop it.
If you want to be an ally, then work with us and stand with us. Learn from us. Listen to us. Follow our lead.
Don't talk over us. Don't try to prove your credentials with how you vote, what you believe, whatever. That doesn't matter. Because in the end it isn't your credentials that will stop the horrorshow that's killing us.
It's your actions.
So act.
I feel like I might have sped up the storyline at the beginning, and now I need to pace it out again. I'm also worried that my brain fog means I messed up details between Korra and Asami's point of views. (May also do one for Bolin's point of view.)
Also, here's my Legend of Korra playlist that includes a lot of cute Korrasami AMV's because why not. I did discover it's really hard to find the actual soundtrack of LoK on youtube.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcFYPgGhH_k&list=PLwkkXKxWWwZmeRu9leJsxgr00evmQDtS-&index=1
If ever there was a time to read the fucking room and not trot out any "tee hee, all this banning trans people from existing is the death throes of inevitably doomed fascism, they know we'll win" horseshit....
History is not a season of prestige TV, it doesn't have an arc. If justice was inevitable, fascism wouldn't resurge.
History is the project of making human sense of A Bunch Of Stuff Happened, and if there's anything to be learned from the fash, it's that human Stuff Happens because people make it Happen. And that's why people need to actively break the fash; because there is no happy shiny narrative law of the Long Arc that bends history fucking anywhere, this isn't a Saturday morning cartoon where the bad guys axiomatically lose; what are you, five? You want justice, someone's gonna have to fucking build it
When people tell stories, they always create narratives. So when we tell the stories of history, that is to say, when we write history, we create narratives out of the chaos of events.
But that doesn't mean that real life naturally follows narratives; only that we will retroactively create a narrative later.
So what's the story that we want to be telling ten years from now? The story of how we nearly had liberation until they crushed us beneath their big and powerful boots? Or the story of how they tried to crush us but we were clever, strong, and united; and so we outlived them. The story is being written right now with our actions. The narrative comes later.
