i think the problem with online and society in general is white supremacy in that white people essentially have the keys to the house that is cultural significance and a lot of white cultural is steeped in self-centeredness and competition while I've come to find that every other culture is far more warm and welcoming

like, I'm being kind of hyperbolic here but even in progressive spaces, white people are usually the ones whose issues and problems are front and center

I think we should rename the internet to The Oppression Olympics and then we can see who has it worse and then everyone shuts up forever

or you can just acknowledge that a group of people have suffered for various reasons under various pretenses and have sympathy and empathy. If you're really so hurt from existing in this world, why would you want to also put that pain on someone else?

Because that moral superiority is going to make you feel good for about 5 seconds before you feel the need to be angry at someone else about something else and that's how you become terminally online.

in reply to @TheBlackNerd's post:

I'm a white ally on the internet so this comment is hypocritical, but: white allies on the internet need to learn how to shut up without giving their two cents all the time.

I think a lot of white culture, especially on the internet, has this toxic mindset where you have to be constantly Having An Opinion in order to 'prove' yourself to some shadowy authorities who might spare you if you had the Right opinion. It's some christian bullshit probably.

There's an art to knowing when to speak up and when to shut up, and we've gotten better at teaching the first but we're still awful at teaching the second. It's legitimately hard for many people I know to understand that they can share a post that they only agree 95% with, and they're not obligated to add their two cents to it. We're all conditioned to fear the Wrong Opinion Police instead of, y'know the actual police.
