Some tips:

  • physical exhaustion helps. Porn -> Sleep pipeline is real
  • Don't look at your phone in bed, ever. It's just a bad idea. If you have to look at your phone, set up your alarms and stuff before you lie down.
  • If you lay down for more than like, half an hour without being able to sleep, like, you can't really even close your eyes? Stand up, get a drink of water or something, then lay back down. Your body has a system where it wants to settle down your metabolic and circulatory rhythms, and if it can't do that, it doesn't try until you "tell it to" again. This is the same reason why you should never eat in bed, by the way.
  • If you're still having trouble, check your light and sound levels. If your room is too bright or you get a lot of irregular noise, it'll be more difficult to sleep.
  • If all of the above doesn't work, "count sheep". There's a method to it - you 'visualize' the sheep in motion (jumping over a fence, etc), and then count the number (I count on my knuckles, and usually i'm asleep before i finish one hand). Basically, you want to trick your body into adopting a slow rhythm by counting slowly, and you 'mimic' the useless eye-movements associated with rem sleep, and then you should find your thoughts sort of drifting off. If you find it difficult to "focus" on counting sheep, that's good - that means your brain is trying to dream, so you should just let your thoughts wander once you start to lose track of what number you're on.

I hope this helps in any way

it's like roughly halfway through my sleep cycle i can feel my body squirming around trying to find a comfortable position to sleep in. Thir morning I managed to find my blankets completely inverted from how I went to sleep under them.

I've tried sleeping on couches, on my bed, in a chair, in a pull-out bed...nothing feels comfortable enough to keep me fro. tossing and turning like a storm-wracked galleon.

That's a mattress issue. Sleeping position mainly matters for spinal alignment, and depending on the firmness or softness you'll feel variably compelled to sleep on your front (most don't), sides (this is most common), or back (this is also rare).

Ever tried an adjustable air mattress? Going to a mattress store and field testing one is a really fast way to get a feel for your preference
