I've never read the light novel, my glowing recommendation is 100% based on the manga - which is incredible. I hope to read the novels sometime this year but idk if ill get around to it - im sure they are great too but the art in the manga adaption is just incredible and the characters really shine. Im actually worried that the anime might be taking a slightly more serious tone than the manga.
Fun fact, there are actually two manga adaptions, apparently The other one (which isn't officially licenced for english) is very different... i should read a scanlation one of these days!
Ah, thanks for the info. The LN is on Bookwalker but the manga is not. I was a bit confused until I figured out that the manga is from Square Enix, which doesn't distribute on Bookwalker. So I'll look at getting it on Amazon if I like the anime. Thanks again!
