I've been getting back into Arkham Horror after taking a long break in the middle of a campaign (moving will do that to you) and, you know what, this game is still fun as hell!
Two things:
-
Hemlock Vale is really really good. I'm not a Scarlet Keys hater, I loved the choose-your-own-adventure globetrotting and the conspiracy thriller vibes, but this is a tighter, refined version of the design. The Wicker Man theme feels fresh and interesting, the little character sidequests are a good way to integrate story and choices inside the game, the Longest Night is a nightmare of a scenario(complimentary). They finally figured out how to make a Parley investigator and they knocked it out of the park, Alessandra is so fun to play.
-
I got hit by the idea bug and I've started designing a Vampire the Masquerade custom campaign! It's gonna take at least a year (optimistically!) before this thing is in playable form, but I can feel all my synapses firing while I'm writing all these ideas in concept documents and it's been a while since I had that good creative juice flowing through. Bring it on!
