Feeling pretty terrible at the news, tbh
I have never been a big poster; I looked at various forums from afar, sometimes lurking through threads regularly, but too shy to sign up and start posting. When I eventually found the courage to join some... it was too late, really. A lot of places had closed, others had steadily become less and less active. Twitter was nice, for a time, but in recent years it has turned into a new circle of hell. Discords are the hot new thing, and I just don't vibe with them. Dozens of different servers with dozens of active chatrooms that are impossible to catch up on if you're not logged on while the conversation is happening. Searching for a funny message you remember that's more than a week old is an exercise in futility.
And you know, for someone like me, Cohost was great. Just a pleasant place to be in and appreciate some insightful, long, detailed posts or just chuckle at a quick-fire shitpost at the top of the page. I looked up tags to find new people to follow, learned interesting trivia here and there, and sometimes a burst of inspiration hit at the right time and I would write some big effort post about my current obsession! Some kind of video game, usually. I wish I had managed to post more; I planned to make a series of posts about the games I played each month, but lost motivation very quickly. I wanted to translate my big end of year GOTY lists from previous years, and post the new ones here too; the translation took a lot of time, so I kept putting it off. Some after play reports of my Blades in the Dark campaign... Alas. I'm still proud of a few posts I made here, so I will try to export a copy to my wordpress for archival.
If you're interested in the custom Arkham Horror campaign (Vampire the Masquerade-themed) I'm working on, keep an eye on the Arkham Horror reddit I guess, it will pop up there when (if? nah let's have faith) I get it finished. Same account name over there. I've got twitter and bluesky accounts, but I don't think I'm going to spend a lot more time there than I currently do; I can feel myself getting actively annoyed when I scroll my feed longer than 5 minutes.
Thank you for all the yuri screencaps, for the essays about noir literature, for the mystposting, for the numerous Steam Nextfest demo reviews, for the fun Star Wars/AMCA fandom, for making me read Liar Satsuki Can See Death, an all-time favorite. Thank you @Staff for making this website and keeping it running as long as it did. Thank you to all the people I followed, and the ones that were kind enough to comment on my posts. You all have been lovely people and I will miss this place
