I normally use a VPN but it's usually set to somewhere in the US. For the last few days I've had it set to Canada in order to look at sports
every time a japanese twitter user RTs a video from the olympics, I get a "This video cannot be played in your region" error because my IP is canadian. I have literally never seen this before. Has this been around forever and I just never see it because I live in The Imperial Core? or is this some new bullshit
This is a largely US/Canada media corporations issue, they go to exceptional lengths to not let you view the olympics for free if they can help it
I mean, I know why they do it, I just didn't think twitter actually HAD a region-lock mechanism
It's quite possible they created it FOR the olympics, haha. I know they did this in the pre-musk years for the olympics but I can't think of any other time
