played a bit of T99 due to them finally running another maximus cup event; I'm kind of surprised they actually did another one, it's been months since the last set of events and they were becoming less frequent in general over the past year or two. at this point I figured they just ended support, but I guess not? it's weird that they're doing this now of all times, though, given that Kirby's Dream Buffet released several months ago. normally these tie-ins are done closer to the release dates or sometimes even before, given that they're meant to be, you know, promotions... but whatever. the theme in this one's nice. some of the past themes felt pretty cheap or straight up difficult to parse visually. i like the ones like this one that are clean and contrast well; though I'll likely always prefer the default skin, stuff like this isn't half bad either.
it's nice to have another event going on since it gives me a reason to return to 99. i do kinda like this game but there's just not really a lot to actually do in it once the novelty of the Tetris Battle RoyaleTM meme wears off. i also find the game a bit frustrating to play given the lack of initial rotate/hold - something common to most guideline games, so it's far from a unique fault to 99 specifically, but it's still a bit annoying to deal with, so on the (admittedly relatively rare) instance I'm in the mood for some modern versus action i'd usually rather play Zone Battle in Effect, or hell, even TETR.IO feels better to play overall - even if I dislike its obsession with removing every single possible delay from the game, I will have to admit that 0f piece spawn delay is a lot more bearable than any amount of spawn delay with no IRS/IHS.
despite all that the game is still pretty fun to jump back into for an hour or two here and there, so i'm a bit disappointed that they seemed to stop running events for it as frequently - especially since it started to wind down around the time I bought my fightboard mx, which I kinda wanted specifically so I could play console exclusives like 99 more often due to being unable to get used to gamepad controls. i hope they continue to do some more of these in the future still, they're kinda neat
