yea this is part of that game concept i was talking about but im not bothering to make the big info post (yet?)
these weird lizards are called rathets and they live on a peninsula called Pavirn, which is where the entire game is going to take place. the rest of the continent doesnt exist yet because i dont want to think about it.
anyways these are some guys from a side quest line, they operate a mixed passenger-cargo train. the quest involves you getting a part time job with them, doing tasks for money, and getting plot and lore out of them. [Note: Names are mostly fillers, they will probably change when i get some words for the conlang. ik carmine is definitely changing because it can translate to a word for red.]
and im gonna throw what i have of said lore at you rn for absolutely no reason.
for age context: rathets reach mental maturity at age 20, reach the equivalent of our 50 at around 80, and reach max life span around 150.

[•] Joe
unknown age, he/him, transmasc, unlabeled / romance and sex replulsed The head train conductor. Nearly 300 years ago, he and a friend made a deal with a magician to give Joe an amab body in return for an artifact. His friend tried to steal something on the way out and the magician cursed them both, but because of the poor, improvised wording, joe has basically been given pseudo immortality. To put it simply this man will not die until his body decomposes. It tends to manifest as extreme luck; a bullet miraculously hit just next to his heart instead of through it, the poison in his drink just happened to expire a week ago and it has no effect on him, that boulder fell right next to him and the worst he suffered was a broken tail, etc etc.
Living for nearly twice the lifespan of a normal Rathet has made him bad-tempered and achy, although he was a little bad-tempered to begin with, and he spends most of his time intoxicated in some form to cope with the pains. If you can put up with the ranting and complaining, you can get some good stories and solid life advice out of him. Despite acting aloof, he really cares about the other three.
[•] Axel
27, he/him, cisgender, bisexual One of the passenger car attendants. He's good hearted and tends to see the best in people, but he's clumsy and a little air headed. Thisnmakes him very gullible, which leads to him taking a lot of the blame for K's misdeeds; it doesn't bother him and he considers K to be one of his closest friends. (Half the time K isnt even trying to get him in trouble and he's just in the wrong place at the wrong time) Carmine treats him like a son and has shown him all the tricks she used to use when she was an attendant. She's a little worried about how he would fare anywhere else.
i couldnt find an appropriate place to put this but sometimes he forgets he's on a moving train. sometimes if carmine gives him a list and tell him to go to the store when they stop and he tries to walk out the door of the car. usually he stops before he gets there, but he's walked completely out the door before. hes just like me frfr
[•] Carmine
94, she/her, cisgender, lesbian Carmine is the train manager, it's her job to make sure everything is accounted for. She's cranky, uptight, traditional, and she runs a tight ship. Most of the staff resent her a little for it. Her and joe are very close. He's the only person she doesn't scold over regulations, she's the only living person he's told about the curse, and during off times they can usually be found chatting in the front train engine. It doesn't take a lot to make them bicker, but they don't hold grudges over it.
She's divorced. Love loses. She misses her wife, Persephone, very much, but they got married with the idea that the other would drop their entire life to go live together, and both if them are very attached to their jobs. Every month or so, she mails Persephone half her wages; she usually doesn't get a letter back.
[•] K
35, she/they, transfem, straightThe head (and only) engineer for the train. Growing up tinkering gave them a lot more experience than their age would usually entail, enough so that the company didn't pair her with a second engineer despite this being the first full locomotive worked on. We love labor shortages <3. This leaves no one to catch her changing parts out with cheaper ones and selling them, except for Joe, who started giving her tips on where to hide them. Her mischief has given her a small reputation, and carmine loathes them for the irritation they cause and the trouble they get axel into. No one is sure if K is actually their name, better not to ask.
[since i dont have a post up about species yet: K is a bog rathet. they are evolved to live in dark damp environments, which is why she has a beak and larger eyes. bog rathets also have a semi-transparent extra eyelid that they can use to see underwater, similar to alligators.]
