funnily enough eating food spiced with a fuckton of sichuan peppercorns creates this same effect
(source: ate some chongqing chicken from a sichuan restaurant that was the Real Deal, drank some water, and immediately was concerned that our pipes were disintegrating)
eventually it occurred to me that my tastebuds were maybe being bamboozled so I grabbed another drink that wasn't tapwater.
