hot take but the "women are my favourite guy" song was only funny when i thought the guy was like german or swedish or romanian or something. the guy turning out to be american removes all humour because whenever americans try to make fun of other countries theres just this incredibly mean-spirited bullyish underlayer to it. like they think anyone different than them is fundamentally ridiculous and needs to be corrected, despite being the most clown fucking nation on the planet. its like finding out the guy who played austin powers is canadian.

Awww, they were American? That sucks - there's a huge difference between "loving self-parody" and "look at these weirdos," and one of the major distinguishing factors is whether it comes from people who actually lived it. Maybe the guy who wrote "Planet of the Bass" spent some time listening to 90s-era European electronica, which is why it sounded realistic, but him not BEING from Europe really takes the lyrics from "remember when we thought English was cool despite not really knowing it" and puts them squarely in "haha stupid foreigners" territory. Shame. :unyeah:
