I idly wonder how much of that is driven by the streaming paradigm, where games aren't just entertainment but also an investment with expected returns, so it's ideal if the game is immediately intuitive with no downtime or failure that's hard/boring to watch and decreases viewership.

I wish more people were content about just sharing their feelings on a game, and didn't feel the need to be "right." Is it not enough to just dislike a game? Do you also have to declare that it's "broken?" Do you have to imply that everyone who does like it is just dumber than you for not realizing it's "bad design?"

Sorry if that's a different vibe than what you were going for with your post, lol. I've just been thinking about stuff like this a lot.

I call it the DSP/Arin Hanson/Lily Orchard Problem. They don't want to just say a piece of media "isn't for them" they gotta prove it to everyone even if they gotta resort to disingenuous rhetoric or methods to do so. This includes shitting on the people who do like the thing.

If they can't have fun, no one can.
