Speaking of labor action, the last bit about fishing is an example of why radical labor action is needed, not just reactive addressing of immediate grievances. It's not enough to demand living wages, though we obviously need those. It's not enough to demand safe working conditions, though we need those too! We ultimately demand control for the workers of the work we do.

The owners who care only because of the money don't understand overfishing. They don't understand climate change. They don't understand contaminated drinking water. These are external to their world. But internal to the world of people smashed by these things.

People who do the fishing can understand sustainable fishing. People in many cultures throughout history have learned to husband populations of fish. But people who profit from fishing, especially banks charging interest on loans on the boats, don't care. They require ever growing monetary returns, and they shut their eyes to what gets done to pay them.
