What exactly makes something "hip hop"?
Because I'm running into a lot of stuff lately that's tagged as such that... doesn't really seem to fit into my mental model of what hip hop is?

Take for example this:

Like, yes, you could say it has a strong rhythmic beat underlying it...
but is that all it takes to make something hip hop?
Am I just An Old that's not (heh) hip with the times?

It’s probably that hip hop grows a lot of branches of that genre that it really warps people’s perception. People’s definition of hip-hop can vary depending on their knowledge/experience with it as well as what they listen to on a daily basis.
