It's just a really gross corporate (derogatory) move trying to dial back to the absolute minimum of queerness and making the official position "Maybe they're roommates???" Especially when the show began with thr two being betrothed and ended focusing on their rings, we can't simply have the show be queer because then it's Too Queer.
exactlyyyy - and like, on the bright side? the show exists as it does, so as years go by and people watch it for the first time they'll see a whole queer arc and not some weird July of 2023 press release saying 'hey uhhh about that....'

like, I HAVE to imagine it's some kind of 'statement to appease investors in homophobic markets / countries' (also taking into account that Japan still has bans on same sex marriage) but like, this isn't a "disney relegated the gay kiss to a scene they can cut in Saudi Arabia" thing, the gay marriage is the text of the ending lmao
sure but like gestures it was text from episode one, technically
and yeah there is absolutely no way to read the ending as anything else without more mental gymnastics than Cirque Du Soleil
