TLDR: unity is 100% committed to the runtime fee, they claim their primary customers are happy with it, and they see mobile ad-monetized games as the primary audience for the game engine going forward.
I don't see anything here that suggests they understand why indies would be spooked, or that they've been displeased with the instability of the engine for a long time. This all amounts to a big, red, flashing "stay away" as far as I'm concerned.
