Gosh darn a lot of people still miss the point of Hogwarts; the "fantasy" of joining a bizarre cryptosociety of ultrapowerful fash with ludicrous nonsense traditions and horrifying child-traumatising hazing rituals is Eton, it's just fucking Eton.

Magical society is a metaphor for being part of Britain's media-political class! It's not that the "but it's formative for me, part of my childhood, made me who I am haha" freaks want to go to Eton forever; it's just that it's an easy cutoff point for imagining life as one of those people being all Funny Little Rituals and Large Fancy Buildings, rather than looking full-on in the mirror and going "I want to be Boris Johnson or Prince Andrew and be a massive corrupt venial mediocre middle-management type shitsack with no redeeming qualities, enormous power for literally no real reason, and infinite opportunities to get away with it."

As IRL magic powers go, you can't tell me Child-Sex-Trafficking-Conviction-Disappear-O! isn't pretty good, if you happen to be the kind of person who'd find it useful

And that's why when the "but I want to play the terf videogame" people tell you it's For Their Childhood, they're not getting reviled half as hard as they fucking should, because the entire book franchise is a story about the liberating and empowering experience of gleeful class traitorhood
