The Windows 11 test machine Task Manager: constantly uses 20% CPU for DNSCache
Me: frowns, squints, runs malware tests, nothing
The internet: "Oh yeah, if your hosts file has to many entries, it does that, lol"
Me: "... surely not, that would be dumb"
Me: decimates hosts file, removing a bunch of dead letter loopbacks for bad domains
Task Manager: "Yep, 's all good now!"
Me: 😠

I love how ubuntu has an automatic "hey this wireless mouse's battery is almost empty" popup that has no problem recognising my trackball on the rare times I boot into it, but windows just fucking doesn't say anything if you don't install the specific 5 gigs of vendor trash drivers and software - which I never fucking do, because fuck your garbage, it's obviously not needed for any actual usage, and it might not even have the thing I need anyway
