Does anyone know of any ffmpeg setting(s) that'll limit it in such a way as to drastically reduce the fan noise while encoding video?
Because this machine is a fucking jet engine while encoding, and I don't mind running it longer (maybe even overnight) if that means it'll be quiet for a change.
Edit: Solved. Windows 11 Power Options/Advanced Settings/Processor power management/Maximum processor state from 100% to 50%, whisper quiet now.

Yes, it's not an ffmpeg setting, but it's arguably better to do it at this level for the whole thing, so you can throttle up or down as needed
and we've finally achieved it: a quiet 1.5Ghz CPU with a standard manufacturer spinny fan
