look at that! it's a creature! just a little guy! basically the kobold equivalent of an amphimorpho

Proteus protomorpho, also known simply as "protomorpho" or by its older nickname "chameleopsid" (after it's then-tentative taxonomic family name), is a small species of alien found on the planet Terranova. After the discovery of its unusual regenerative healing properties, it became the subject of study under the research initiative "Project Delta" - it's genome would eventually form the framework for creating Proteus amphimorpho.

as previously stated in this ask, protomorphos are roughly housecat-sized, arboreal critters who are the predecessors to amphimorpho! i've mentioned them here and there as part of my lore documents on the latter species, but it's been a long time since i drew one!

protomorphos are able to change the color and texture of their bodies to help them blend into the environment and avoid predation, as well as to communicate with others of their species. they also possess a remarkably efficient ability to heal from injuries, to the point of being able to regenerate entire limbs in a matter of weeks! they are gregarious and form colonies of 15 - 25 members, occupying a small territory that they frequently move around in and aggressively defend from other colonies. they are omnivorous and opportunistic feeders, but will primarily seek out fruits, nectars, and grubs in the treetops :>

...i'll probably adapt this post into an actual written lore document in the future! i'm really hoping to remake my amphimorpho species site on neocities and to expand it to include way more lore and worldbuilding stuff! >w<

in reply to @TuxedoDragon's post:

You mentioned communication and organized family groups, so out of curiosity, how intelligent are they, on average? They seem at least on par with, say, crows or monkeys on Earth, but the Kobold mention makes me think way smarter (though obviously you were joking there).
